The British army relied on slow, but
Well-armored infantry fighting vehicles that supported the infantry in their advance. The Valentine was exactly the right tank for this.

After its introduction in 1940, it initially saw action in the western desert and was considered very reliable by tank crews. They were able to repel attackers with its 40 mm 2-pounder gun and secondary armament consisting of Besa machine guns.

The 16-ton machine was also used by the New Zealand forces in the Far East and in notable numbers by Stalin's Red Army, who appreciated its comfort,
even though their slow speed of only 15
Miles per hour, they estimated.
