Toward the end of the war, the US Army conducted extensive trials with ground-launched versions of the M8 air-to-surface rocket. One of the most widely used was the eight-tube T27 rocket, codenamed "Xylophone." While inaccurate, these rockets possessed tremendous penetrating power, particularly against unarmored vehicles and troops in the open. Some of these launchers were mounted on trucks to create a mobile system similar to the Soviet Katyusha.
In the Bolt Action tabletop game, the T27, mounted on a Deuce chassis, features a powerful multiple rocket launcher, a weapon whose use requires both skill and luck, but which possesses absolutely devastating damage potential. It is a superb piece of experimental, low-cost self-propelled artillery for a late-war US force, utilizing the "Rocket Truck" profile from Armies of the United States: Third Edition.
