StuG III Ausf. D Assault Gun

Built on the battle-proven Panzer III chassis, the Ausf D was armed with the 75mm StuK 37 L/24 gun whose high explosive shells made short work of enemy positions and early war tanks.

Although overshadowed by the headline-grabbing 'big cats' such as the Panther and Tiger, the Sturmgeschütz were arguably the greatest success story amongst German armoured vehicles. Seeing action on all fronts the Third Reich fought on, they collectively destroyed more tanks than their feline cousins, with claims that they knocked out over 20,000 tanks by 1944!

The Stug's low silhouette proved extremely advantageous, making it difficult to engage and easy to camouflage with paint schemes.

Stug crews were actually part of the German artillery arm rather than the panzer divisions and as such mostly wore field grey uniforms.
