Pike & Shotte Epic Battles - English Civil Wars Cavalry Battalia

Large numbers of cavalry units were used in the wars of the 17th century. Parliament's cavalry initially relied more on pistols than on the cold steel charges favored by the dashing Royalists, but towards the end of the war, bloody charges were the norm.

Cuirassiers were rare in the English Civil Wars and were limited to a few squadrons, consisting mainly of bodyguards. Individual soldiers wore whatever armor was available, regardless of age, and could be integrated into harquebusier regiments. Dragoons were found on all sides and could dismount to hold tactical positions such as bridges, but also fire from the saddle when necessary.

All armies of that era used as many cannons as they could afford, from fearsome large sakers to small field guns like the falconet, which unleashed a deadly hail of bullets at close range.
