Blood Red Skies: P-40 Warhawk Ace: 'Tex' Hill

"Tex" Hill was born in Gwangju, Korea, under Japanese rule, but grew up in Texas. After graduating from Austin College in 1938, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a pilot, earning his wings as a pilot of the TBD-Devastator torpedo bomber aboard the USS Saratoga. He also joined a Vought SB2U Vindicator dive bomber squadron aboard the USS Ranger. In 1941, he was recruited for the 1st American Volunteer Group and trained on the P-40 Warhawk in Burma.
