Prussia was a highly militarized state in the final phase of the Napoleonic Wars, its survival dependent on the strength of its army. While not as renowned as the infantry or cavalry, nor as numerous as the Landwehr (militia), Prussian artillery was a crucial component of the army, providing vital fire support to the troops. The foot artillery comprised the bulk of an army's guns, from 6-pounders upwards, and was typically deployed in a tactically advantageous position before a battle. From there, the guns could devastate the enemy from a distance, and if all went according to plan, they would not need to be repositioned during the fighting!
