The Portuguese military of the Napoleonic Wars was an interesting beast. A firm ally of Britain, thanks to long-standing treaties and bitter opponents of the invading French, the Portuguese army was relatively small, but benefited enormously from British training and equipment from 1809 onwards, becoming a force in its own right. There were twelve regiments of cavalry, who served well in the Peninsular War, helping to drive out the hated French!
