British Light Dragoons 1808-1815

The term "dragoon" originally meant mounted infantry. In addition to infantry training, they were also trained for combat on horseback. However, during the 18th century, mounted infantry developed into elite units within the armies of Europe. Consequently, dragoons only entered the battlefield on horseback.

Nineteen light dragoon regiments served the British Crown at the height of the Napoleonic Wars. As light cavalry, they were not unlike hussars and were sometimes referred to as such. One of the most famous regiments was the 13th Light Dragoons, who are still serving in the British Army today, though now under the name 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own).

The box contains enough individual parts to recreate the uniforms of the Peninsular and Waterloo campaigns.
