Battle of France:
In the Battle of France, the Matilda II tanks fought against a general retreat. The Matilda caused the Germans major problems because their 37mm and 50mm anti-tank guns were simply too small to penetrate the tanks' thick armor.

Western Desert:
Perhaps the image of the A12 Matilda II is more in line with the gruesome battles in the desert, where it encountered the infamous 88th Division of the Afrika Korps.

The Far East:
Later, as they became increasingly obsolete compared to the German vehicles, many were sent to the Far East, where the opposing Japanese tanks were much lighter.
It was the only British tank to remain in active service throughout the entire war.
