The Sherman was the most widely used tank in the American army. The breakthrough on the beaches of Normandy and the capture of Berlin would likely never have been achieved so quickly without this extensive armored support. Although it had its weaknesses, earning it the nickname "Tommy Cooker" from the Germans, its impressive firepower and large numbers ensured the Allied victory over the Germans.
