The KV-1 heavy tank

The KV-1 is a massive, monstrous vehicle weighing 45 tons. It was one of the first heavy Russian tanks deployed in World War II and was renowned for its virtually impenetrable armor. German anti-tank weapons of the time could barely penetrate its armor, and only its lack of training and maneuverability allowed it to succumb to superior German tactics.

Due to its sheer size, the KV-1 could literally crush anything in its path, so firing lines and camps were abandoned at the mere sight of it. Its 76.2 mm gun still penetrated any current German armor, making it virtually unstoppable in 1941.

The KV-1 was the epitome of what a heavy tank could or should be: virtually indestructible and capable of striking fear into the enemy. Although it fell out of favor in the following years, it was used as the basis for the next generation of heavy tanks.
