For the first time, Bolt Action has transitioned from World War II to the "forgotten war" that took place in Korea between 1950 and 1953.

The KPA's armed forces were enormous, numbering between 150,000 and 200,000 men, divided into 10 infantry divisions, 1 tank division, and 1 air force division. Although North Korean conscription was in effect before the outbreak of war, many young men were encouraged or pressured into service by their own families in exchange for a financial reward.
At the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, the KPA was in every respect better prepared for the coming conflict. They were not only better trained and better equipped, but the earlier guerrilla warfare in South Korea had also left the ROKA forces little time to rebuild a strong military presence. The initial attacks on June 25, 1950, were therefore highly effective.
The KPA foot soldier has long been known for his ability to endure the worst effects of the enemy, the harsh Korean climate, and the difficulties his own superiors can cause. Modeled on the Soviet mechanized army, the sporting weapons supplied by Stalin and supported by veterans discharged from China, the KPA forces were significantly larger and more dangerous than the UN had anticipated.

KPA LMG squads

The basic KPA infantry squad consisted of ten men, led by a sergeant and a junior sergeant. Each squad carried a light machine gun and required a second man to act as loader. Typically, the LMG would be the DP (Degtyaryov Pekhotny) machine gun, nicknamed the "record player" because of its distinctive round pan-shaped magazine.
