The backbone of the British and Commonwealth armies was the regular soldier. At the start of the war, they may have lacked practical experience, but they were well-trained specialists and were likely led by men who had fought for several years during the Second World War. The Commonwealth Brigade soldier who fought in Korea proved himself a capable force and contributed only to the successes in the distinguished history of the British and Commonwealth armed forces.

One unit particularly well-known from the Korean War is the 1st Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment, "The Glorious Glosters," whose motto is "By our deeds we are known." They became famous for their dramatic actions in the Battle of Imjin from April 22nd to 25th, 1951.
