Korean War Ace Pilot: Gan Gyong-Duk by Warlord Games

Captain Gan Gyong-Duk commanded the 59th FAR, a North Korean MiG-15 squadron that was withdrawn from the front lines in 1951 to form a "special attack group." Gyong-Duk's command was tasked with intercepting enemy aircraft belonging to the U.S. Navy's Task Force 77, which at that time operated largely unmolested over eastern North Korea.

Gyong-Duk's early MiG-15 models achieved considerable success against American piston-engined Corsairs and Skyraiders. At least 15 USN aircraft were reportedly destroyed, with Captain Gyong-Duk credited with no fewer than 10 victories. The USN was forced to use F9F Panthers as escorts, diverting them from vital ground attack missions. For his service, Gyong-Duk was awarded the title of Hero of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
