In an effort to secure its place among the European powers, Italy began colonizing several African countries, including Eritrea, at the end of the 19th century.

Eritrean Ascari battalions became an integral part of the Italian colonization of East Africa and were equipped with Italian weapons and equipment. During World War II, the Ascari distinguished themselves in the North African campaign. They were respected and highly skilled fighters who served until the fall of Italian East Africa in 1941.

The box contains 10 metal figures with plastic bases.
