The Skoda-designed 100/17 Modello 14 was a medium howitzer that constituted a large part of Italy's artillery strength. Overall, Italian artillery was a hodgepodge from a previous era, although the crews were well-trained and made the most of the guns they operated. The bravery of Italian artillerymen on the Eastern Front was legendary. They often fired with open sights at the approaching enemy, attempting to halt the Soviet onslaught.
