Italian Ace Pilot: Leonardo Ferrulli

Leonardo Ferrulli was one of the most successful aces in the Regia Aeronautica, flying all types of biplane CR.42s to monoplane C.200s and C.202s with great success. He volunteered for the Spanish Civil War in 1937, claiming his first victory there, downing a Republican bomber.

During World War Two, he fought in North Africa, Yugoslavia, and in the bitter aerial fighting over Malta where he took a heavy toll of Allied fighters and bombers. Over Sicily, on July 5th, 1943, whilst intercepting a raid, he shot down a B-17 Flying Fortress and a P-38 Lightning in quick succession (his 21st and 22nd victories) before being killed shortly after by an escorting Spitfire.
