The IONIC WWII German Winter Camouflage Set contains 12 acrylic paints carefully selected to provide the essential colors for white and cream-colored garments, making it ideal for recreating clothing in snowy environments. This set includes all the colors needed to paint winter or white camouflage used on certain parts of German equipment, including reversible smocks, trouser covers, jacket covers, and helmet covers. It contains the paints to create two shades of white: a warmer shade (starting from a beige base) and a cooler shade (starting from a bluish gray). These paints are used to build up shadows and create a base, which can then be easily highlighted by adding an ivory tone, a shade also useful for mixing lighter tones and adding highlights to the rest of the figure. Both shades of white can be combined on different parts of a miniature or on figures of the same unit to achieve more realistic results that reflect the variety of colors one would find on the battlefield.

The set also includes two field gray shades: a darker variant, ideal for painting helmets and shading uniforms, and a lighter variant that reflects the classic green-gray of the German uniform. To replicate the typical wear and tear on helmets caused by weathering and use, the set includes a "washable" white paint. When applied over a dark gray base coat and allowed to dry, this can be reactivated with a little water to remove some of the white layer. The set is rounded out with several shades of brown and black, perfect for painting equipment such as straps, lunch bags, canteens, and ammunition pouches.

Each of these colors can be used directly for individual elements, but they can also be mixed to create new shades that are excellent for building volume by working with light and shadow.
