IJN Aircraft by Warlord Games
Victory at Sea - IJN Aircraft
After witnessing a massive air force at the Battle of Taranto, the Japanese quickly mastered this tactic, as demonstrated in their infamous attack on Pearl Harbor. Later in the war, as the Japanese suffered terrible attrition and faced defeat, they desperately turned to kamikaze attacks.
Kawanishi N1K1 George: Known to the Allies as "George," the N1K1 entered service in 1943. Designed as a land-based derivative of the single-seat Kyofu fighter, the George so impressed the Imperial Japanese Navy that they adopted it. Armed with two .303 machine guns and four 20 mm cannons, the George was superior to the Hellcat and could compete with aircraft such as the Mustang and the Corsair.
Nakajima B5N Kate: The standard Japanese torpedo bomber and one of the main causes of damage at Pearl Harbor. The Kate was a robust and reliable aircraft, slightly superior to its American counterparts.
Mitsubishi G3M Nell: The G3M Nell was developed to meet the need for a maritime patrol and attack aircraft. It was capable of performing the roles of a tactical bomber or a torpedo hunter, and did so with distinction, despite being considered obsolete at the outbreak of war. G3Ms participated in the attacks on HMS Repulse and the Prince of Wales in December 1941, the first sinkings of large ships by aircraft.
