German Heer 75mm PaK 40 anti-tank gun (1943-45)

With the increased use of heavy Soviet tanks such as the T-34 and KV-1, the Wehrmacht's 5 cm PaK 38 was no longer effective enough.
The PaK 40 became available at the beginning of 1942. It became the standard weapon of the German tank destroyers.

As the war dragged on, it became clear that even the 7.5 cm PaK and its variants could no longer engage all enemy tanks. On the Eastern Front, the weapon's effectiveness was diminished by the increasing presence of heavy IS tanks. However, on the Western Front in 1944/45 and in Africa in 1942/43, it proved effective enough against British and American tanks.
