German Heer 8.8cm Flak 37 (Winter) from Warlord Games

The infamous "Eighty-Eight" or "88," as it was known to Allied forces, was originally designed as an anti-aircraft weapon and possessed a high muzzle velocity that allowed it to reach the greater ranges of bombers. This characteristic also made it an exceptionally deadly anti-tank weapon, as many Allied tank crews discovered to their dismay. Consequently, the 88 was also used as a conventional artillery weapon. As one infantryman remarked, the 88 was "against everything"...

The 88 saw action on all fronts where the Germans fought in World War II. It was capable of penetrating armor plates up to 108 mm thick at ranges of up to 1,100 meters. Its fearsome reputation grew immensely during its deployment in the Western Desert, where it was one of the few weapons capable of engaging the British Matilda II infantry tanks. A similar scenario played out on the Eastern Front, where the 88 was among the few weapons that could take on the Soviet T-34 and KV tanks.
