Bolt Action: Mountain Trooper Squad

Besides the paratroopers, the mountain troops were also considered elite. Mountain troops originated from the Alpine Corps of the First World War, where they were deployed to defend mountain passes against their Italian counterparts, the Alpini.
Their symbol was the edelweiss, a flower they traditionally wore on their caps and neckerchiefs, which became the universal emblem of all mountain troops in 1907. The flower grows only at high altitudes and signifies "noble purity".
Specially trained for use in mountainous and difficult terrain and under extreme climatic conditions, mountain infantry divisions were deployed throughout the war in almost every theater of war in Poland, Norway, Africa, Crete and the Balkans, as well as Russia.

As the Allied troops advanced further into Germany, mountain troops often fought alongside the regular infantry. Especially in the final months of the war, when the quality of new conscripts was poor, mountain troops were frequently deployed to defend strategically critical areas.
