British & Inter-Allied Commandos Weapons Teams by Warlord Games

Infantry weapon teams are a vital component of any Bolt Action army, offering your troops great tactical flexibility. Sniper teams, flamethrower teams, and light machine gun teams are among the most common weapon types, presenting the enemy with numerous challenges that must be overcome.

As specialized looters, the commandos went into battle with light weaponry. However, they made good use of Vickers K machine guns—formerly aircraft-mounted machine guns—with their high rate of suppressive fire. These two-man teams consisted of a Vickers K gunner and his second gunner, loaded with extra ammunition.

While marksmanship was an important skill for all commandos, those with a particular aptitude for accuracy and fieldwork were often employed as snipers. In the early days of the organization, snipers were deployed more or less ad hoc; later in the war, they were explicitly listed, along with their telescopic sights, in the commandos' organizational and equipment tables. Snipers were used not only for reconnaissance and attacking enemy forces, but also in pairs on landing craft to engage enemy defenders in advance of amphibious assaults and attacks.

For the attack on Normandy in June 1944, commando troops received backpack flamethrowers to clear fortified positions on the beaches. The portable Mk 2 flamethrower contained enough fuel for approximately 10 one-second explosions and was quickly disposed of after the initial phase of the attack.
