BP Epic Battles: ACW Infantry Regiment Advancing
In many of history’s civil wars, both sides were very similarly equipped, with the colour of their uniforms and the flags under which they fought being the identifying factors. This was no different for the Union and Confederate forces in the American Civil War, and these miniatures, advancing with their firearms in the ‘right shoulder shift’ position, are equally suitable for painting up as either a Union or Confederate regiment.
Union soldiers wore dark blue tunics, light blue trousers, and were armed with percussion rifles. They learned to manoeuvre and march long distances to carry the war to the South. Early regiments were of variable quality, few having previously drilled, let alone seen any significant active service. By the war’s end, they were a tough and efficient force, a match for their opponent, ‘Johnny Reb.’
Confederate regiments were tough, many in their ranks used to hardship and familiar with firearms. This was just as well, as compared to their Union northern adversaries, they were frequently ill-equipped, supplied, and armed – much of their equipment either taken from captured Federals or privately purchased. Better-equipped troops favoured Enfield rifle-muskets when available, but many rifle types saw use during the war, even old flintlocks in reserve units. Southern troops were noted for their fast and fearsome assaults, many letting out the uncanny ‘rebel yell’ to unnerve their ‘bluebelly’ opponents.
Box contains 24 Warlord Resin figures (including command group), plastic bases, MDF snake rail fence scenery, Kepi badge decals and full-colour flag sheets for both Union and Confederate troops.
