American Civil War: Infantry Regiment Advancing by Warlord Games

In many civil wars throughout history, both sides were very similarly equipped, with the color of their uniforms and the flags under which they fought serving as distinguishing features. This was no different for the Union and Confederate forces in the American Civil War, and these miniatures, advancing with their firearms in a "right shoulder" position, are equally suitable for painting as either a Union or Confederate regiment.

The Union soldiers wore dark blue tunics, light blue trousers, and were armed with percussion rifles. They learned to maneuver and march long distances to carry the war south. The early regiments varied in quality, as few had received prior training, let alone significant active service. By the end of the war, they were a tough and efficient force, a match for their opponent, Johnny Reb.

The Confederate regiments were tough; many in their ranks were accustomed to hardship and familiar with firearms. This was a good thing, because compared to their northern opponents in the Union, they were often poorly equipped, supplied, and armed—much of their equipment came from state prisoners or was privately acquired. The better-equipped troops preferred Enfield muzzle-loading rifles when available, but many types of rifles were used during the war, even old flintlock rifles in reserve units. The Southern troops were known for their swift and fearsome attacks, and many of them would let out the eerie "rebel cry" to unsettle their naive opponents.

The box contains 24 resin warlord figures (including the command group), plastic bases, MDF snake fence scenery, cap badge decals, and full-color flag sheets for the Union and Confederation troops.
