At the outbreak of war, the QF 2-pdr (QF stands for "rapid fire") was the standard anti-tank gun of the British Army.
At the time, it was an adequate weapon, somewhat more effective in terms of armor penetration than the German 37mm PaK 36.
However, it was larger and heavier and had an unusual sled from which the wheels had to be removed before it could fire. It performed well against early tanks, light vehicles, and the poorly armored Japanese tanks, was popular, and achieved successes in France, North Africa, and the Far East.
