She was armed with a battery of twelve 14-inch guns in four turrets and protected by heavy armor plating (13.5 inches thick in the main belt).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp\u003eDuring the 1920s and 30s, Idaho spent most of her time as part of the Pacific Fleet, conducting routine training exercises. She was modernized in the early 1930s. During World War II, but before the United States entered hostilities, she was assigned to neutrality patrols, protecting American shipping during the Battle of the Pacific. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, she and her sister ships were transferred to the Pacific Theater.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e For the remainder of the war, it supported amphibious operations in the Pacific and bombed Japanese troops during the campaigns in the Gilbert and Marshall Islands and the Philippines. It also supported the invasions of Peleliu, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Idaho was present in Tokyo Bay when Japan formally surrendered on September 2, 1945.
