The Polish army in 1939 was large, well-equipped, and relatively well-armed. It fought hard, but was completely outmaneuvered by the fast-moving German armored advances, supported by all weapons, in a new, dynamic style of warfare that a largely infantry Polish army could not match. When the Soviets entered the fray, also invading Poland and splitting the country in two, it was too much for an already overstretched army, lacking tanks and air support, to endure—the end was inevitable.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp\u003eThe Poles put up fierce resistance against the two invading forces, even though they were vastly outnumbered in some instances.
