Despite their overwhelming numerical superiority, the Soviets were defeated. When the Soviet Union—now part of the Allies—attacked again in 1941, the Finns had few options left but to ally with Germany in a conflict known as the Continuation War. The Finns were masterful marksmen and adept at small-unit tactics, striking hard and then disappearing into the dense forests.
